Second verse same (similar) as the first
IF the definition of insanity is doing the same thing with a different result then I'm either bonkers or slotted firmly in the "Twice Shy" category. I've struggled with what type of bike to setup for my second Harley. I've swung between what I want versus what I need and landed and paused on everything in between.
Then a little while back I rode every day in pissing rain. Every day for two weeks, if it wasn't on the morning run into town I copped it going home. My new rain suit kept me dry but the It was constant moisture that saw a few blemishes and rust spots start to appear in various places. Then it dawned on me. I can't have nice things.
I absolutely love the vicla style, I could stare at pictures of this style for hours.
But thats the problem with that style of bike. They are designed to be looked at not ridden. Sure ride short distances but not do road trips, or ride them hard in the mountains, or give the peak hour traffic hell as you're getting the F outta town on a Friday evening.
Its that peak traffic lane splitting that also limits my choices concerning Harley touring models. I'd love nothing more than a bagger but firstly they are being my budget and secondly they just cannot cut the mustard when I need to get out of town fast.
So I know another dyna will fit the bill. But the question is what sort?
Performance? Clubstyle? Bobber? Low Rider, Street Bob, Fatbob?
For that decision I really needed to look at my current bike. My 2014 Fat Bob is just about to pass 45,000km and has a few niggles requiring attention and upgrades I still want to do. Not limited to but including:
Now one thing I'm certain of is that I want to go the performance route for this new Dyna. More motor, more brakes and better suspension. But I don't want a full-on club style build either. I'm too tall for mid mount controls and the only fairing I would run would restrict my lane splitting abiliities.
Then I started looking at the remaining bits and pieces I want to do on my fatty and it dawned on me. TWO FATTYS!!!
So unless I change my mind again thats the plan now. 2 Fat Bobs
Fat Bob #1 : My current second gen fatty - The Mile Muncher
Fat Bob #2 : A first gen fatty - The Hot Rod
I'm trying to pull off a trade on this one currently:
If this one falls through there are a few others I have in mind. Either way I will outline my plans here in the coming weeks.
